The Miracle of Feeding Hundreds with Beans...
From the Internet!

One morning in June of 1998, I received
an e –mail from our friends at Hopes for Others,  in Arad, Romania.

In this e-mail, they were telling me that they had heard of an orphanage in southern Romania where children were starving to death. Others confirmed it was true that children were eating flour boiled in water and dying of malnutrition. I asked our co-workers to take whatever money we had and go help as much as they could.

This was on a Thursday.  The following Sat, I was in the kitchen, at Fairhaven, visiting with a friend of mine,  Lawrence, and sharing with him about these children in Romania. I told him that we needed to find some beans, wherever at the best price, to send it over in a container in the following weeks. He suggested I try the internet. To say I was skeptical about finding beans on the internet is an understatement. However, I asked him to go to my office, get on the internet and try to find some beans while I made coffee.

A few min later, as I went into my office he had a name on the screen of the monitor,
Martin, a farmer in Nebraska, together with 2 phone numbers, so I called this gentleman.

I introduced myself, and told him that I was interested in buying beans, but did not tell him why I wanted them. Only when he asked me if I was a wholesaler, did I tell him why
I wanted the beans. He seemed to be interested in this and asked me if I had some information regarding our ministry. I told him I did and he asked me to send it to him.
I e-mailed it immediately.

The following morning, (Sunday) I received an email from Martin telling me that he was
blessed by what he had read and that he would like to help us in any way he could.
He signed the letter, “
Your Servant in Christ”!  God had led us to a Christian bean farmer
in Nebraska via the internet!

In the next day or two, Martin offered to give us 2 or 3 tons of beans, and we were so
thankful for what God was doing. Then Martin calls me a few nights later and he tells
me that he would like to give us whatever beans he has in storage, about 7 or 8 tones !
He told me that he would e-mail me the next day and tell me. Well, I could hardly sleep that night wondering how I was going to move all those beans to Louisiana from Nebraska.

The next morning, I was on my way to New Orleans to take care of some business when
my wife, Sissie, called me on the mobile phone. She told me that she had just received an e-mail from Martin stating that he had 27,500 pounds of beans in storage!

I told her that surely he had made an error in his letter, but that I would call him when I arrived home.

Now, while in New Orleans, I shared all of this with a friend I was meeting with,
and told him to be praying that we would find a way to move those beans.

When I arrived home, I called Martin and asked him about the figure he had stated,
and he told me that it was correct and that he thought God had multiplied those beans! I must state that I was wondering how in the world we could handle the logistics of moving these beans to Louisiana, shipping them to Romania, storing them there, and then distributing them. I did know, though, that if God gave them to us, He would work out these details.

I was working on finding a trucking firm to move them when I had a phone call from
this  friend that I had had the meeting with in New Orleans. He told me that he talked about the bean situation to one of his friend’s. His friend told him to call me right away and tell me that he and his brother would drive to Nebraska and get the beans.
They did as they promised and brought the beans to Fairhaven.

It never ceases to amaze us at how God always provides not only the supplies to send
but the people needed to help us put it all together.  Those beans helped to feed those starving children and also other poor families from that area of Romania.

I hope that this story will be an encouragement to you as you have read it.

Love in Christ,

Johnny

And the King shall answer and say unto them,
"Verily I say unto you, inasmuch as you have done it unto the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."
