"Hopes
For Others" Newsletter....

February
2003
Dear
Friends,
It is always a
privilege to write and let you know how God is providing for needs
and allowing us
the opportunities
to serve Him and serve others. In the letter this month, I want to
just share with
you a few short stories
of situations where God has allowed us to help others. As you
read, know
that it is only because
of your support and
prayers that we are able to help in these areas.
This is Cornelia Rusu
who is 70 years old. She lives in a small, one room apartment with
her only daughter. Ten years ago, she had a stroke. She had a very
good recovery, only to fall and break her hip 5 yrs later. She has
spent her last 5 years in bed, but is fortunate to have her
daughter taking care of her and has not had to be placed in a
nursing home. Because she is an invalid, her daughter takes care
of her day and night. For the past 5 yrs, they have survived on a
pension of less that $100 a month. It has been a blessing to be
able to bring food, clothing, medicines, Christian magazines,
diapers and a hospital bed to them to try to make their lives a
bit easier. They have never called asking me for anything but they
are always happy for anything they receive. Really the visit means
more than anything to them., Please pray for both of their
salvation for they are Orthodox but have no hope to carry them
through the difficult times.
It
is said that mothers are angels in disguise. For sure, Ana is! She
is 34, has 6 children and she has buried 2 husbands. Her youngest
child is 2 and her oldest is 16. Her children go to school and do
well there. She has less than $100 a month to provide for the
needs of her family, yet she does a great job. Her oldest child is
learning to be a tailor, and the 15 yr old is learning to be a
butcher. She is hard working, honest, and loves Jesus. She does
not tell her children what kind of people they should be when they
grow up—they see this in her. They see it in that she is
faithful in church, and in the way that she is always loving and
helping others. When
the pastor of her church asked who could offer a place to stay for
a family with 10 children, she was the only one to
offer to help. They had to stay there for 7 months.
The Lord has allowed Hopes for Others the privilege of
helping her by giving her food each day for her family, as well as
providing clothes and some of
the other needs they may have. When you see her, you see
love for she loves everyone and is always willing to help. We are
so thankful that God has, with your help, allowed us to help her.
 Fifty
years ago, Mr. Ioan Lipovan was traveling on a slow train, when he
passed a church and heard singing. However, the song
stayed with him and he looked for a church where he may
hear this song again. He found a church, and also found Jesus. He
likes to say that he turned from a vain person to a humble child
of the Lord. His wife left him because of the change when he
became a Christian, yet this just drew him closer to Jesus. He is
92 yrs old, can’t hear well, and living alone. Yet his days are
brightened by visits from friends from America. People that never
met him will spend hours with him for he is such a blessing to be with. He loves to hug people and tell them how good God is.
It is our privilege to be able to provide food for Mr. Lipovan
each day. He can’t go receive the food, but a sister in Christ
takes it to him. He is grateful and loving to everyone that visits
with him.
The
poorest areas in Romania are the Moldavia (Eastern Romania) and
Oltania (Southern Romania) and these are areas where Hopes for
Others sends so much of the supplies we ship. Recently, as Adi
Chisca was delivering supplies, he found out that a church, in one
of the villages, was going to be closed by the state, and the
lease on the land cancelled. The reason was because the roof was
in danger of collapsing and it was a serious safety hazard. Hopes
for Others was able to provide the funds necessary to replace the
roof.
In
another occasion, a young lady doctor, in Oltania, is trying to
start a Christian clinic.
However, they could not afford the $170 necessary to install and
connect the water system.
Hopes for Others had the privilege of taking care of this for her.
Regarding
our clinic, we are hoping to be able to resume construction in a
few weeks. At
this time we have the funds to complete the
first floor, but with inflation as it is, we may go
ahead and purchase whatever building materials we can
afford now. The contractor is doing all
he can right now to be ready to begin as soon as the
weather permits. This winter has been the
worst in 25 years.
As
always, we ask that you keep us in your prayers. It is our desire
that whatever is done
will be done in such a way that Jesus will be
lifted up and glorified.
We
thank God for each of you and for yours prayers and support.
Look
not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things
of others. Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus:
Philippians2:4-5
