Marius... A Special Blessing

THE STORY OF MARIUS
by Johnny Huffman

In October of 1999, Marius's mother came to me and
shared with me about Marius's condition.

Marius was born with a condition known as
"Hydrocephalus"
or, as it is sometimes referred to,
as a "waterhead baby".

At the time of his birth they were able have a shunt
(a special tube) placed in his head to keep the
fluid drained from his brain.
However, as Marius became older,
the shunt began to deteriorate.

When his mother came to me, she told me that the doctors
had told her that if Marius did not receive a replacement shunt,
that he would eventually die.

His mother told me that they did not have the shunts available
in Romania, and if they had, that she could not afford it.

She also told me that by replacing the shunt,
it would help Marius to be able to walk.

I told her that I would do whatever I could,
but that I could not promise anything.
I also told her that anything we would be able to do,
would be because the Lord worked it out and made it possible.
She is a Christian and understood this.

After arriving home, I shared this need as a prayer request
in our chapel services on Sunday morning.  After services,
a friend of mine came to me and told me that he knew of a
pediatric neurologist who may be able to help.

My friend spoke with the doctor and the doctor was able  to have a shunt
donated for Marius.  We delivered it to them as quickly as possible,
and Hopes for Others provided the funds to take care of the surgery.

Today, Marius is doing great!
He still goes to therapy, but his mother works with him constantly, also.
He is an intelligent child and is truly a fighter who doesn't give up.

We are so thankful to our Lord for providing for Marius and for
allowing us to have a small part in helping him.
Look at him today... enjoying the new bike...
special people like you have helped to provide for him!

And the King shall answer and say unto them,
"Verily I say unto you, inasmuch as you have done it unto the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."
