THE MIRACLE OF THE VITAMINS

In the early fall of 1998, we had heard of an orphanage in the southern part of Romania, where children were starving to death. I asked one of our coworkers to check into this and see if it was really true. Within 24 hrs, they had confirmed that, indeed, 5 children had already died of malnutrition, and, probably, 3 others would within the next 3-4 days.

I asked our coworkers to take all of the money we had there and to go and purchase what food they could to help. In the meantime, we worked on getting other organizations involved. No other children died of malnutrition here.

Not long after this, I was in Romania. As I would be talking with some of the people on our board there, the ladies kept telling me how badly they needed vitamins for the orphanages. I kept telling them that I just did not have a vitamin source, and all we could do was pray. (isn’t it something, how this is so often our “last resort”?!) So, we prayed for vitamins. This was the last of October.

On the first Friday in December, Shirley Gremyachev, director of Universal Aide Society in Vancouver, B. C., Canada, called me. (of all the containers the Lord has allowed us to ship, she has probably provided all of the funding for at least 40 of them, and partial funding for many more) She told me she had a problem and was wondering if I could help.

Her “problem’ was that she had a container stuck in Kaleningrad, Russia. All of the papers were supposed to have been in order, but customs would not allow it to clear. They also told her that she had only a few days to move it or they would destroy it. Shirley told me that she had tried to get it into other countries, but no one would take it, and she was hoping I could get it into Romania.

I asked Shirley just what she had in this container. She said “Johnny, I have over a million dollars in vitamins in this container.” I asked her to give me 30 minutes while I woke some people in Romania. The Lord worked it all out and we did get the complete shipment into Romania.

We happened to be in Romania the night the vitamins arrived. Even as we unloaded the container, we loaded Adi’s truck that he uses to deliver supplies. Before we were finished, he was on his way to the orphanages to deliver some of them.

God’ faithfulness never does cease to amaze us.
